Few doctors combine technical excellence with a truly gentle demeanor the way Dr. Shefali Pilar does. Known for her compassionate nature and calm presence, Dr. Pilar puts even the most anxious patients at ease. Her conservative approach to treatment is grounded in strong ethics, precision, and a deep commitment to delivering the highest quality care to both patients and their families.
A Jersey City native, Dr. Pilar earned a Bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Engineering from the New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT) on a full four-year academic scholarship. She then received her Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) from the prestigious New York University College of Dentistry.
Following dental school, Dr. Pilar completed a rigorous General Practice Residency (GPR) at Hackensack University Medical Center, where she received advanced training in cosmetic and restorative dentistry, complex implant coordination, and the care of medically compromised patients. Recognizing her clinical excellence and leadership, the program invited her to return as a clinical instructor—a role she continues to embrace by teaching new resident dentists on Fridays.
Dr. Pilar is passionate about staying current in the ever-evolving field of dentistry. She regularly participates in continuing education courses and professional seminars to ensure she provides the most up-to-date materials, techniques, and treatment options. She is an active member of the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry, the American Dental Association, and the New Jersey Dental Association.
In addition to her clinical and academic work, Dr. Pilar is deeply involved in the local community. She actively sponsors and supports a variety of local events, schools, and organizations, believing strongly in giving back and helping to strengthen the neighborhoods she serves.
Outside the office, Dr. Pilar enjoys spending time with her husband and high school sweetheart, Maulin. Together they live in Rutherford with their two daughters, Sarina and Leia, and their beloved cat, Rosie.
